Reagan-McCarthy Medal of Patriotic Service Award
About This Award
The Reagan-McCarthy Medal of Patriotic Service Award is presented annually by the Office of Ideological Compliance to the Bureau agent or officer who has demonstrated the most outstanding record of identifying, documenting, and referring ideologically suspect individuals for compliance review during the fiscal year.
The award was established in FY2019 following a significant uptick in detected subversive activity across the Bureau's monitored districts. The recipient is determined entirely by confirmed identification volume, as verified by the Compliance Review Board. Character references and seniority are not considered.
Note: The Bureau's selection process is administered independently by the Office of Ideological Compliance and is not subject to Directorate override. All nominations are reviewed by a panel of three senior compliance officers, none of whom report directly to the Bureau Director.

Nominating Officer's Statement
"Captain Briggs has demonstrated an instinct for subversive detection that is, frankly, remarkable for an officer with only three years of field experience. His case closure rate speaks for itself. The Bureau is fortunate to have him."
— Deputy Compliance Officer [NAME REDACTED], Office of Ideological Compliance, 2026-03-15
Director's Remarks
"I want to be very clear that I did not see the nominations before the panel made its decision. I was also not informed of the finalists. The process is completely independent of my office, as it always has been. I am, of course, enormously proud — that is, the Bureau is enormously proud — of the result. Walt — Captain Briggs — embodies the values of this institution. His mother will be very pleased."
— Dir. R.H. Briggs, BCR Directorate, 2026-03-30
